The Cusp of Parenthood
Well, in about 12 hours I will be a father. Lately I've been having dreams, but not events or stories, but memories- years of memories from childhood to just recently all rolled up. They say that dreams are how our brains organize our memories for storage, and it seems that my brain has been re-shelving old memories, as if to say "This is as close to being a child as you will ever be, so I will make sure you know what youth is like, but you can not touch it again, only witness and encourage it." I walked the dogs today and all the people I know along the way who were out wished me well, hoped Danine was doing well, hoped to see baby Emily soon.
The other night was up up far too late. It had been hot after a very cool spring time, and I could not sleep until I had a plan to get the swamp cooler in place. I just couldn't allow the house to be uncomfortable when I had a newborn on the way. New windows so the winter would be warmer, summer cooler and always quieter. Beefed up the cable so Danine will have entertainment when she is tired, and unlimited phone time so she can call freely. Now the air conditioning. Must feather the nest...
Who is this little person going to be? Tomorrow morning I get to meet her for the first time! This afternoon I was talking to her through Danines belly, and must have surprised her a bit, because she immediately started moving. I hope she remembers my voice...
It is very nice to have my parents here. Clare and Kate will be here Saturday morning. Also I just found out my cousin Sara is pregnant- can't wait to tell her congratulations.
